Example of our latest work - using a dry ridge system
This is our latest work for Bovey Construction in Kingswear, Devon. Lovely to work undercover for a change especially with the weather in England not being able to make its mind up. This contract has involved the laying of existing slates and a contrasting terracotta dry ridge system which looks stunning set off against the grey slate.
On August 31st 2015 the British Standard for Slating and tiling BS5534 was updated and states that mortar alone is not to be used for the fixing of Ridge and hip tiles as this is deemed inefficient.
Mortar can be used but it must be used in conjunction with a mechanically fixed system or to eliminate the use of mortar at all there are systems available such as the one used on this occasion (see below for information) which are entirely mechanically fixed meaning that mortar joints between the ridges and hips are replaced with plastic inserts.
